New Normal

Cote d’Ivoire is reeling from her first terrorist attack last Sunday afternoon on the beaches of Grand-Bassam: Ivory-Coast-hotel-shooting. Remembering our own September 11, you can imagine everyone's shock. Although their attack was smaller in scope, they experience the same stunned thought, “It can happen here.” Continue to pray for the families who lost loved ones, for both those traumatized and those giving counsel, for the government attempts to prevent future attacks, and for Christians nationwide to boldly share the Prince of Peace and the King’s values.

Verlin made it safely to our Bondoukou house on Tuesday. Most of our belongings are moved there, but because they have been in dust-ridden storage, there is much to be done. Equipment that has set for years often needs repair. So far we know our gas stove has rusted-through so gas will escape at the burners. All furniture will need to be sanitized before use. Water is frequently turned off or unavailable in our neighbor hood for hours or days at a time, so one of Verlin’s first priorities will be to get our water storage tank prepared for use, and see if a pump works.

Wednesday he began vehicle shopping in Abidjan. An Ivorian we trust is helping look for a truck, with an interesting possibility. Verlin also began the process of getting our yearly residence papers. As a bonus, he was invited to attend and share during the planning conference of The Micah Project in Cote d’Ivoire. Some participants are trained in CHE, while others want training.

Prayer and Praise

  • This Wednesday, March 23, is the court date for Cason and Suzanne to sign the adoption papers for their foster daughter. We rejoice to soon be "official" grandparents!
  • Ask the Lord to make clear our vehicle choice. We will travel regularly and extensively to remote villages and in two other countries, so we need a 4x4 that can float through mud.
  • Corbin is home this upcoming week for his spring break. Pray that he rests and copes well with our long-term separation. We will likely not see him again until he graduates in 2018.
