Taste and See (Psalm 34:8)
One of the first principles we teach in the five-day, first-level Community Health Evangelism (CHE) training is a lesson called “The Great Commandment and The Great Commission.” It is crucial, from the beginning, to understand that CHE is integrated—dealing with both the spiritual and the physical world—because Jesus was that way. As He and the disciples walked about preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom, He also healed the sick, rebuked demons, raised the dead, and saved a woman from being stoned. At times, Christians are understandably concerned when they perceive a ministry is just social outreach with no Gospel. Other times, ministries may strongly share the message of salvation but ignore the urgent physical needs of people or creation in front of them.
Jesus was never conflicted in that way. In Luke 4:16-21, He clearly defined His role at the start of His ministry, fulfilling Isaiah’s description of the Messiah. He would preach the Gospel to the poor (economically disadvantaged), heal the brokenhearted (emotionally disadvantaged), proclaim deliverance to the captives (socially or politically disadvantaged), give sight to the blind (physically disadvantaged), and preach the acceptable year of the Lord. No part of a person’s life was left untouched by Jesus. So it should be with us, as we minister in His name. Next month, we will share further from this lesson about what that means in our daily lives.

Prayer & Praise
- 🙏 Thank the Lord for the completed CHE Internship in Ghana. Pray that the equipped CHE trainers will impact the millions living in West Africa, integrating spiritual and physical ministry. May our Father protect them from the evil one and from the rampant persecution in many places.
- 🙏 Since the passing of her father, Debbie works long hours to tie up financial and logistical loose ends. Pray for wisdom about a few details as we wait for others to complete their responsibilities. Insurance companies certainly know how to drag their feet!
- 🙏 Several CHE co-laborers of ours in Côte d’Ivoire wait for legal paperwork on land. Pray that the processes proceed smoothly with no requests for bribes, so that the ministries on pause can move forward soon.
Your partners in the Gospel,
Verlin & Debbie
