Painful Goodbyes

Community Health Evangelism (CHE) in Cote d’Ivoire lost a great champion this week. Pasquier Deahon entered the Lord’s presence due to a severe asthma attack. We grieve with his Abengourou family, church, clinic, and denomination. He served in multiple roles, including those of CHE team leader, clinic administrator, and active church member. He and his wife were expecting
their first child in six months. We came to know him better as CHE began to expand in the nation. He helped us train teams in Bondoukou, villages, and at a university in Abidjan. Pasquier was a joy to know and with whom to serve others. He enabled many Christian NGO and churches to more effectively witness and serve. The void he leaves is large, but thankfully we know the Lord does not take someone without creating opportunities for His glory to be seen in other ways. Beyond all the talents he offered in many settings, we will sorely miss him as a friend. He's been a "brother of another mother.” Pray that his legacy will bring many to a greater understanding of the Jesus he served here and now serves in heavenly places.

We have other prayer needs this week, as well:

•Planning for the September 2015 CHE university training continues with the importance of having alternate trainers apparent. Ask the Lord to provide substitute trainers and to give wisdom as we eliminate 7 hours of training.
•Pray for a short-term medical team being led by new missionaries of the CHSC who must now flex to accomplish planned work around the absence and funeral of Pasquier.
•Corbin has been applying and interviewing for summer jobs. Ask the Lord to provide him enough work to pay his portion of college costs next school year.
•Praise the Lord, our trailer has been placed! There are several projects that we need to finish before we can move our belongings, and time is pressing.

Because of impromptu travel to accommodate site construction, our quarterly report is delayed. Thank you for upholding us during this hectic season of activity, and for your faithful gifts that have and will reap a great harvest in West Africa! Thanks to the Lord's provision, we have only drawn a poverty-level salary for health insurance needs to date this year, and the remaining contributions continue to be set aside for West African ministry and reimbursements. Once the trailer setup is complete, we can once again plan services with more certain timeframes.

Your partners in the Gospel,
Verlin and Debbie
