As we mentioned last October, Bondoukou is historically known as "The City of a Thousand Mosques." This picture from our yard shows the mosque right behind
our house with a loudspeaker attached to the minaret. It faces our courtyard! The rude awakening between 4 and 5 AM every morning, with the Muslim call to prayer, is a shock at first, but it symbolizes the reason we are here. Pray Muslims become true servants of God in Bondoukou, as well as other Ivorian locations. For that to largely happen, Holy Spirit filled believers will have to share the Truth with them from house to house and in personal relationships, while confronting lies in every venue of life: spiritual, physical, social, and emotional. It is certain that they will not come en masse to our places of worship for answers. Thankfully, CHE (Community Health Evangelism) lets believers regularly go into their midst and encourage all together to find the way of Christ.
Although surrounded by a worldview embracing death moreso than life, we are not discouraged. A few days ago we met an Assembly of God pastor who lives just a few doors down from us. Count a second pastor just beyond him, and a FWB pastor just north of us, and that equals four ministers in less than half a mile. The AoG pastor suggested we need to name our street "Jesus is King" Road!
This Saturday, May 14, we will travel to Abengourou, three hours south. Debbie has been asked to share with a group of Christian women who consider beginning a CHE Women's Cycle of Life ministry. She would have preferred more days to prepare, but accepts this appointment from the Lord.
Prayer Points:
- Verlin took a turn with malaria this week, and has thankfully recovered fully.
- Our serious Internet problem was corrected Thursday, and we have enjoyed good service for two days since then, except as we write this today!
- Ask for a fruitful meeting with Debbie and the ladies.
- Recently Verlin met a man who had much contact with one of our earliest FWB missionaries. He considers himself now an Islamologist, and wants to discuss Jesus being presented in the Koran. Pray for honest dialogue and prepared hearts.
