Flex and Bend

The village Community Health Evangelism (CHE) training in central Cote d'Ivoire finished well today, although slowly. Translation into a tribal language doubles the length of time to teach, and so a second module of training will be provided in December. Part of the CHE process is flexing to the particular needs of each setting. Twenty-one people from five villages participated. Four of the students who are literate in French will become trainers themselves, and the others will serve as change agents in their communities. What a joy to equip these believers, some of whom have waited since 2012 for this teaching! Details are sparse because Debbie only spoke briefly with Verlin by phone, since there is no electricity. He tried posting a picture to the Internet, but connectivity was too slow.

The pastor who co-taught the lessons with Verlin will return to his home by public transport, while Verlin stays in the region a few days. Tomorrow he will preach at the host church. Then Monday and Tuesday he plans to meet with at least two, and possibly five, individuals or groups who consider starting CHE ministry, or who were trained and desire follow-up.

Prayer and Praise
  • The original Ivorian CHE trainer who was scheduled to assist Verlin became ill with malaria and could not make it. Verlin found out only a few days before time to leave. Thankfully, another pastor trained in CHE stepped up to the challenge on short notice so that Verlin did not have to teach 30 hours alone. Thank the Lord with us for this pastor's flexibility and generous heart!
  • Ask for safe travels home for everyone at the training and productive meetings for Verlin. Pray that the newly prepared workers will reap a large harvest for Jesus in their various settings.
