Happy, Healthful Plans

Sometimes the good we need to accomplish is hindered because we fail to make the process a pleasant experience. Debbie recognized this concept while with our granddaughter for a few hours. Chelsea could not wait to show grandma her new face mask with a funny face on it, and exclaimed, "I love to wear it!" She joyously and unnecessarily wore it on and off for much of the together-time. She is learning to overcome challenges while making pleasant self-expressions.

James Clear, author of Atomic Habits: Tiny Changes, Remarkable Results, echoes this principle in chapter 15 of his book with the story of an American public health worker who visited slums in Karachi, Pakistan. Stephen Luby and his team knew the simple habit of washing hands makes a huge difference in a community's health. Most people living there already knew handwashing to be a good health habit, but the majority washed hands incompletely, infrequently, or not at all. His team partnered with a soap company to provide sudsy, pleasant smelling soap to many homes with home instruction to improve the handwashing experience. After a few months, results were phenomenal. Diarrhea fell by 52%, pneumonia by 48%, and impetigo by 35%. Six years later, the results were still long-lasting. Over ninety-five percent of the households which had been given soap continued the practice, without free soap, of having a handwashing station with soap and water available. When we make what is necessary enjoyable, our commitment becomes easier to fulfill. We may even find others who want to join us.

Helping Hands

Those of us who follow Jesus infuse hope, joy, and inventiveness with proactive or responsive ideas to pressing difficulties. CHE processes help participants create washing stations and even lyrics for a handwashing song to pass along disease-combatting values. Creatively sharing 'Tippy Tap' solutions and Discovery Bible Studies, CHE practitioners transform often perceived tiresome tasks like handwashing and family worship to fun, encouraging, and transformative social experiences. These examples represent two of more than 10,000 witnessing and service ministry experiences that CHE Network lessons teach, infused with a Biblical worldview. They equip the willing to make the process of reconciling the world to Christ a more pleasant experience.

A pastor friend in the Cookeville area blessed us with much help recently. He helped make our fundraising process a pleasant experience by introducing us to potential ministry partners.

Prayer and Praise

  • Rejoice with us for faithful giving during the summer months. Our ministry account has not taken the typically annual dip during the past three months. We also appreciate the friend who takes the time to introduce us to other pastors and possible ministry partners. We hope this decreases the time it will take us to gather the remaining $1,100.00 needed in monthly pledges.
  • The first two weeks of virtual school for our granddaughter went quite well. We thank the Lord for that, as we continue to pray for educators and students who face difficult situations.
