The Lord blessed us with services in the Cookeville area for three consecutive weekends. This week, while Verlin renewed contacts and took steps to counter the attempted identity theft, Debbie spent some time at her parents sorting and preparing for a move. It was her joy to be with them on their 60th wedding anniversary! She reflected on some habits they have exhibited over the long haul. A few to consider are listed below:

• Say thank you often and sincerely for daily chores accomplished.
• Opposite personalities can accomplish much together in the Lord's work if each partner is committed to the same goal.
• Love and commitment are not proven by lavish gifts, dates, or shared hobbies. They are demonstrated in sickness and health and working together through hard times.
• Do not disdain your spouse's family. Treat them with the same respect you show yours. While acknowledging faults and working to overcome them, appreciate the strengths of each.
• Enjoy the simple blessings of life together: a beautiful sunset, a good meal, an encouraging song, a task accomplished.
• Be creative with what you have, rather than longing for things you do not have.
• Make Godly choices for your family, whether others agree with it or not.

Connection Sustenance

This was a week of not being able to connect in conversation with Ivorian ministry partners. Still, we noted an 11.8 million dollar grant from the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations was awarded to Cote d'Ivoire this month. They purpose to develop zero-deforestation cocoa production since Cote d'Ivoire now has one of the world's fastest rates of forest loss. Also, UNICEF actively engages partners to promote health and hygiene there since the COVID-19 crisis began. We trust Community Health Evangelism (CHE) practitioners will sustain their entry points being reinforced by external agencies and build-up efforts in the national educational arena long after UNICEF leaves. These updates and accompanying emails provide for sustained exchange. Only by continuing habits over the long haul will transformation endure.

Prayer and Praise

• As of August 27, Cote d'Ivoire reports 17,603 COVID-19 cases, 15,941 recoveries, and 114 deaths. Ask the Lord to give them the wisdom to continue and expand healthful practices.
• Pray for the Ivorian presidential elections scheduled for October 31. The current president's decision to stand for a third term triggers widespread unrest and protests. Also, pray solutions are found for now annual flooding in Abidjan. Many lose their housing and belongings due to ineffective water management efforts. We have friends touched by flooding every year.
