Taste and See (Psalm 34:8)

While Verlin completed his mission in Ghana this week, Debbie faced a separate array of challenges in Cote d'Ivoire. At times, our "hello from the other side" of the border became content-heavy. Last week, she and our Ivoirian helper sadly watched as both puppies died from parvovirus. (The needed vaccines were unavailable in the previous supply trip to Abidjan.) Also, our female dog in heat gave Deb some sleep-deprived nights to pray while our male Rottweiler tried to reach the female. Then, the hose on the washing machine disconnected, flooding the washroom with water! (Thankfully, that repair was quick.) Blessedly, the Lord gave solutions for these and other obstacles as she completed the storage room project.

On Wednesday, a most thought-provoking event happened. Debbie heard a ruckus from across the street, about 50 feet from our courtyard. When she checked with our co-worker for details, he casually explained that a man was being beaten and cut with razor blades by neighbors and that they might also break his hand. Seeing her shocked look, he explained further. Theft remains rampant in our town of about 100,000, and the population is fed up with law enforcement's response. When a petty thief is taken to authorities, he usually pays a bribe and gets quickly released. The lack of reconciliation or justice makes it difficult for hundreds of small commerces to survive. Hence, the vigilanteism of our neighbors. They decided that a man who tried to steal a package of flooring from a little boutique would more likely stop thieving if they intervened than if he were turned over to overstretched police. They phoned a family member to claim him and took turns flailing upon him for several hours. "He that saith unto the wicked, Thou art righteous; him shall the people curse, nations shall abhor him." (Pr. 24:24)

Come and See (Psalm 66:5)

Interns get the other side
about what good health means
in a CHE-changed village.
Verlin finished his time at the CHE African Internship Center of Ghana in appreciating the work God gives to all which made it possible. He gave thanks and was thanked for coming. In the coming weeks, we hope to share some testimonies that he recorded. Graciously, the Lord gave Verlin a 'safe journey' for return to Abidjan. We expect to gladly reunite Tuesday after he buys supplies and makes some catch-up visits with CHE teams. As the loose, regional CHE collaboration grows, the fellowship plans to establish additional self-funding centers for interns by language, region, and nation.

Prayer & Praise

  • πŸ™ Thank God with us for Verlin's safe return to Cote d'Ivoire. Ask the Lord to give safe and hassle-free travels to all other Internship participants. One goes to a nation neighboring Ukraine.

  • πŸ™ Pray that Biblical understandings of justice return to preeminence in the U.S. and get better understood for application there, and in all nations, including Cote d'Ivoire and Ghana.

  • πŸ™ We join in worldwide prayer for all the people of Ukraine, especially the vulnerable and our Christian brothers and sisters who will face persecution.
